A Machine Gun Battalion was attached to each Infantry Division and was formed of four MG Companies.

The 3rd Bn, MGC was formed on the 06 March 1918.

On the 11th November the 3rd Division was in VI. Corps Reserve and was billeted in the le Quesnoy-Bavai area. Ordered to the Rhine, the division began its march on the 20th November, entered Germany on the 11th December, and on the 20th December reached its destination between Duren and Cologne.
